Some Program Highlights

The Starting Out Right program (SOR) has partnered with the Diaper Bank of Southern Arizona for about 5 years. Their commitment to supply emergency diapers in the Tucson community, especially to the SOR clients makes a big impact for the high-risk population Starting Out Right serves. This past year Starting Out Right provided over 1000 diapers to over 30 participants in Pima County. One client said, “thanks to programs like yours, I have not needed to spend any money on diapers for my son in the first year of his life”. The money she saved on diapers allowed her to save toward a car and she no longer has to walk with her son in the Arizona Summer heat.

The Starting Out Right program also partners with The Diaper Bank of Central Arizona. From July 2019 to June 2020, Our Maricopa offices provided about 1800 diapers to over 85 pregnant and/or parenting participants. Many of our participants are balancing a job, finishing school, and trying to meet their basic needs, all while caring for a child. Being able to assist them with diapers plays a small part in helping our participants to cut down on cost and allow them to save for other important necessities.

Currently, everyone is dealing with the stress of the Covid-19 pandemic, especially those that are considered high-risk. In earlier months of the pandemic, there was a shortage of diapers in the stores, plus the risk contracting coronavirus by simply going to the store. Our Case Managers continue to meet with clients safely to ensure they are getting diapers during this time.
