Providence Place brings stability, family to youth lives

A young lady placed in our care by Probation came to us literally homeless, with her sister.  Mom has a substance abuse problem and is homeless herself.  The young lady was extremely distraught, would not speak to anyone, and was defiant of rules and staff direction.  She also had not been to school in quite some time, and was missing her court appearances and court mandated appointments due to lack of housing and transportation.

About 2 weeks into her stay, she started to be a part of the shelter dynamic, as we are a very home-like atmosphere.  She slowly began to bloom. She was happier, was a part of the household activities and chores, and began to enjoy the recreation provided by the program.

Soon, she was enrolled in school and counseling.  She also graduated to phase 2 in her Drug Court Program.  She is still in the program, and is performing well in school, making all of her appointments and court appearances, and is close to being promoted to Phase 3 in Drug Court.

She is a consistent member of the shelter household, and has been a great leader to other girls in the program.
